Updated:2025-12-22 07:35 Views:167Steven Bergwijn has confirmed that he is set to join Sampdoria on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, with the deal reportedly worth £12 million.
The Dutch winger will spend the season in Italy, with his new club joining the likes of Fiorentina and Udinese as part of the Serie A promotion push this summer.
Bergwijn was released by Spurs at the end of last season, having struggled for regular game time under Mauricio Pochettino. The 24-year-old had previously been linked with moves to West Ham United and Everton, but decided to take his chances elsewhere after being told he would not be given a new contract.
Sampdoria manager Cristian Stellini has expressed his delight at securing Bergwijn's signature, saying: "We have done well so far in the market, we want to continue this positive trend."
The move to Italy will come as a relief for Bergwijn,Ligue 1 Snapshot who has struggled to make an impact since arriving at Tottenham as a teenager in 2016. He made just three Premier League appearances during his first season, before finding himself out of favour under Pochettino.
However, he did manage to score two goals in four games for Spurs' Under-23 side last term, and has impressed on loan at Parma and Atalanta in recent years.
With his stock high in Serie A, Bergwijn should provide a valuable addition to Sampdoria's attacking options, particularly with the club looking to challenge for European football next season. The Dutchman's arrival could also give Spurs some much-needed depth in their squad ahead of the new campaign.
